This is from the Mayo Clinic in case you are not completely up to date on what P.C.O.S. is: Mayo Clinic Link here and more details pasted below from the Mayo Clinic:
“A hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges.
More than 200,000 US cases per year
Treatment can help, but this condition can’t be cured
Requires a medical diagnosis
Lab tests or imaging always required
Chronic: can last for years or be lifelong
The cause of polycystic ovary syndrome isn’t well understood, but may involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Symptoms include menstrual irregularity, excess hair growth, acne, and obesity.
Treatments include birth control pills to regularize periods, a medication called metformin to prevent diabetes, statins to control high cholesterol, hormones to increase fertility, and procedures to remove excess hair.”
And, let me tell you, the excessive facial hair is INTENSE and causes people so much anguish. Women with P.C.O.S. also sometimes have male patter baldness on their head. They occasionally have a full back of hair that looks like male pattern hair on their backs and chest. They often have a lot of hair on their cleavage and nipples. Some people get hair on their fingers, hands, and male pattern hair on their legs and forearms. But, the facial hair seems to be a big burden that many people with PCOS endure. And, for many of them, it causes them a lot of shame. (Some people never even start dating because they are too embarassed by their facial or body hair.)
And can you guess that they spend half their life doing? TWEEZING and SHAVING. It’s like a daily battle against hair. There are some people who embrace it, but it’s NOT EASY walking around with a full beard if you are a woman or femme.
The world can be cruel to women with a beard.
I can help! Electrolysis works great and had great permanency. The last thing we want to do is torture you for years and years trying to rid your face of your beard. Personally, I would most likely treat most people with P.C.O.S. with straight galvanic or blend method. Thermolysis might be faster for clearing, but it will have more grow-back, which will cost us time in the end. (More appointments which you have to pay for. Neither one of us wants that.)
